日本とのつながり19〜文字〜

世界各地で文字が誕生したのはいつ頃からだろう。

紀元前13世紀ごろから、地中海東岸でフェニキア人が海上貿易に従事していた。

彼らが使用していた文字は、ギリシア人に伝わり、やがてアルファベットとしてヨーロッパ各地に広がっていった。

紀元前1500年頃、インドにアーリア人が侵入した。

そして、彼らの社会の中で紀元前1200年頃から『リグ＝ヴェーダ』という神々に捧げる賛歌集ができた。

これは、自然を神格化したものである。

時代は異なるが、ジブリ映画『もののけ姫』の自然観のようなものかもしれない。

中国で前16世紀頃成立した殷王朝では軍事行動などを占いで決定し、亀の甲羅などに文字で記録した。

これは甲骨文字とよばれ、漢字の原型となった。

この時期、日本ではまだ文字の使用は認められない。

漢字の伝来を待つことになる。

文字が私たちに伝える情報はこの上なく貴重である。

 At this time, the use of letters is not allowed in Japan.

Japan will wait for the introduction of kanji.

 The information that letters convey to us is invaluable.
