日本とのつながり29〜孤立した島々〜

ガラパゴス諸島は大陸から切り離されたことで、島ごとに異なる進化を遂げた生物がみられる。

ゾウガメやイグアナが有名だ。

ガラパゴス諸島を訪れたチャールズ・ダーウィンは、島々の同種の生物たちの特徴の違いから「進化論」の着想を得た。

日本の小笠原諸島も一度も大陸と陸続きになったことはない。

この島には両生類がおらず、ブナやカシなどが全く存在しない。

やはり、生態系も植生も独特なのだ。

隔絶されると自然も、個性を放つ。
