エジプトの古王国時代が紀元前2650年から約500年ほど続き、その間に数々のピラミッドが作られた。
中でもギザのクフ王のピラミッドの雄壮な姿は見るものを圧倒する。
テオティワカンもまた、紀元前2世紀から７世紀にわたって栄えた古代都市文明だ。
テオティワカンはメキシコシティの北東50kmほどのところに位置している。
この文明で作られたのが「太陽のピラミッド」で体積では世界最大。
このピラミッドは祭壇として作られたのとされるが、諸説ある。
日本では５世紀前期から中期にかけて大型の前方後円墳が作られた。
仁徳天皇の墓だと考えられているが、これも確定しているわけではない。
巨大すぎて、近くで見る限りではただの森にしか見えなかったりする。
古代が生み出した巨大建造物の謎は神秘に満ちている。
手がかりも限られる。
